POPLAR GROVE SCHOOL
This school was located about one mile east of Lynn just off Hwy. 10. It was in operation before 1919. Some of the earlier school board members were Louis Elmhorst, Charles Helm and Fred Capelle. These were some of the teachers at Poplar Grove Elsie Johnson, Leo Grassman, Marcus Garbisch, Glenola Snow, Charlotte Rieff Schlachtenhaufen, Irene Bartz Drescher, Dorothy Haselow, Gertrude Bertz Hughes, Mae Ott, Betty Kapfer, Mary O'Reilly Yankee, Mamie Scharf, Pearl Greene, Lois Gerber and Beatrice Mohr. Beatrice was the last teacher there before consolidation in 1958-59. The last board members were Otto Hasz, Clarence Wiechelt and Herbert Sternitzky. The building was sold to George Sternitzky and used as an auction house for a short while. This building burned and a new home constructed with Dale Kurth now residing there.
