Slover, William (1868? - OCT 1903)

Saturday, Wm. Mitte, living near Globe, Clark County notified Undertaker H.H. Eberhardt that the dead body of an unknown man lay in the road about a half mile south of Globe. Justice Crothers was immediately notified and a precept issued to the sheriff to secure a jury for inquest. A jury consisting of J.F. Starrett, Chas. Starrett, Will Oldham, N.E. Crandall, Louis Leighty and Michael Prock were summoned by Under-sheriff Dwyer and drove at once to the scene of death. The body proved to be that of William Slover who lived about 4 miles northwest of Globe in the town of Eaton. Some difficulty was encountered in finding a place to hold the inquest. Mr. Prock cleared up the floor in his big barn and the body was removed there about eight o'clock at night. The deceased had ridden his bicycle from home and had been seen but a short distance from where he died walking with the wheel and again riding. When found his hand still grasped the handle bars. No bruise or wound was fournd upon his person, and as the testimony showed that he had heart trouble, a verdict was rendered that his death was due to that cause. He was about 35 years of age and appeared to be a strong healthy man. He leaves a wife and two children in rather destitute circumstances.
