Zassenhaus, Helene E. (? - 29 Mar 1906)

It is my sad duty to announce the sudden loss by death of one of the most beloved and efficient members of the staff of the White Cross Visiting Nurses Association. Miss Helene E. Zassenhaus, daughter of the well known citizen and Ex-Register of Deeds of Clark County, Wis. William Zassenhaus, died at 2 a.m. Wednesday March 29th, 1906, at the Chicago Baptist Hospital from appendicitis. She had been seriously ill only since the previous Friday and all was done that human skill and love could do. Her father and sister Mrs. Agnes Burpee were with her for fourteen hours before she fell asleep, which was a great consolation to her as well as a satisfaction to the family. Miss Zassenhaus was thirty years old and had been a member of our staff of graduate nurses for the past three years. She was a young lady of very high ideals with a clear well cultivated mind, beautified by a sweet unselfish spirit manifested on all occasions, which made her beloved by all with whom she associated. Her father and sister, Mrs. Burpee, took the body home to Colby, Wis. and were accompanied to the train by the officers and twenty of her former co-laborers of the White Cross Visiting Nurse Association, who through their tears expressed their loved and sympathy to the stricken father and sister.
