Died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Kubat in the town of York, Clark County, Mr. Carl Novacek, Mr. Novacek was born in Tebon, Bohemia, Jan. 28, 1837. At an early age he learned the shoemakers’ trade and at the age of 20 was drafted into the Austrian Army, where he served the full time of eight years, seven of which were spent in Italy, then a province of Austria. He served through the war of 1859 between Austria on one side and combined forces of Italy and France on the other, and fought with his comrades in several battles and was wounded twice, but not seriously; after the war he was honorably discharge and went to his home in Bohemia, where he conducted a shoe shop until he came to America.

In 1905 he came to the U.S. to live with his children the rest of his days. He usually enjoyed good health until about a month ago he was taken with la grippe, which developed in pleurisy and later formed an abscess on the lungs which caused his death March 2, 1908. Peace be to his ashes.

The funeral was held at the Catholic Church in Neillsville, Wednesday, March 4, Rev. Father Dorrenbach officiating.
