Mashin, Dorthea (23 Jan 1913 - 30 Aug 2002)

Dorthea Marie Mashin, 89, Neillsville, died on Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at the Memorial Nursing Home, Neillsville. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at the Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville. The Rev. Kevin Hanke officiated. Music was provided by Eileen Zank, organist, and Dawn Thoma, soloist. Burial was in the Columbia Cemetery. Pallbearers were Douglas Wampole, Marvin Mashin, Marlin Mashin and Ralph Clodfelter.

She was born on Jan. 23, 1913, in Guttenburg, Iowa. She attended school in Guttenburg and married George Mashin on July 17, 1929. They lived in Iowa for three years after their marriage, then they moved to Columbia in the town of Hewitt, Clark County, where they farmed and raised their family. She worked at the Clark County Nursery planting pine trees in the 1960s. She was the town clerk for the town of Hewitt for many years, and she worked at election time for the town of Hewitt for many years. Her interests included crocheting, flowers, gardening and bird watching.

Survivors include one daughter, Iris (Stanley) Wampole, Lodi; two sons, Robert (Carol Marie) Mashin, Neillsville, and Don (Carol L.) Mashin, Neillsville; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Thelma Mashin, Neillsville; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, George, in 1987; a brother, Joe Schroeder, in 1996; and a sister-in-law, Eunice Schroeder, in 2001.

Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
