Bowen, Wilbur (28 NOV 1861 - 5 AUG 1923)
Residents of a quarter of a century ago will recall, with highest regard, Wilbur Bowen, who had charge of the E. D. Carter farm, and who lived also at Merrillan and at Fairchild. He was an earnest worker in the church and a citizen highly esteemed in each community. Mr. Bowen passed to his reward on Aug. 5th, 1923. The Cumberland, Wis. Advocate, in which city he resided, says of him:
"Wilbur J. Bowen passed away at his home here Sunday evening, August 5th, after a lingering illness of several months' duration. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. D. H. Fleet. Burial was made in Lakeside Cemetery under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity, of which he had long been a member.
Mr. Bowen was born in Bethel, Vt., Nov. 28, 1861. He was a son of Rev. and Mrs. Lorenzo Bowen, who came west when Mr. Bowen was about two years of age. The father, being a Methodist minister, the family lived in various places in Wisconsin.
Mr. Bowen was twice married. His first wife was Miss Laura Hobbs, whom he married forty years ago in Garden Valley, Jackson Co. Three children were born to them, two of whom preceded their father to the great beyond. One son, W. E. Bowen, who lives in Milwaukee, survives his father. Mrs. Bowen died some years ago. On Nov. 27, 1912, Mr. bowen was married to Mrs. Adelaide Field of this city, where they have since resided. Mr. Bowen was a carpenter by trade and followed that occupation for many years. He was also connected with the lumber yard here and at Trego for a time. In every way he earned and kept the regard of those with whom he came in contact."
