Henry W. Stallard

Henry Wallace Stallard, son of John T. and Elizabeth Wilson Stallard, was born Jan. 17, 1862, at Kingston, Wisconsin, and passed away at Eau Claire, where he had made his home with his son and family the past eleven months, on Nov. 5, 1942, at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 18 days.

When he was a small boy the family moved to a homestead west of the village, and since then this vicinity has been his home. He was united in marriage with Miss Ida May Stiles, of Humbird, on Jan. 17, 1884, at Augusta, and to this union three children were born, two daughters and one son.

Mr. Stallard engaged in carpentry and mason work for many years and excelled in the trades. For a number of fall and winter seasons he was in charge of the Albert Miller Co.'s potato warehouse, and many carloads of potatoes were shipped from this station during that time. He served in an official capacity in the town for many terms in different offices. He was also an active member of the Modern Woodmen camp in his younger years.

Mrs. Stallard passed away Aug. 2, 1933, just a few months previous to their golden wedding anniversary. And since that time Mr. Stallard maintained his home alone and continued in active labors until stricken with illness about three years ago.

Surviving him are his three children, Ethel F., Mrs. Ira Sherwin of Merrillan, John H., of Eau Claire, and Maude L., Mrs. E. O. Leonard, of Loma, Montana. There are four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters also survive him, Edward J. Stallard, of Madison, Frank M. Stallard, of Lynden, Wash., Mrs. F. A. Shute, of Altoona, and Mrs. Alice Huyck, of Duluth. His parents and one brother, Burton J., preceded him in death.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in this village at 2:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Nov. 7th, the Rev. C. H. Pierstorff officiating. The scripture reading was the 90th Psalm and the third verse was used as a text for the sermon. Three sacred duets, "The Old Rugged Cross," "Lead Kindly Light," and "Beautiful Isle," were sung by Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Waters with Miss Simons accompanist. Many beautiful flowers expressed the esteem in which the deceased was held by relatives and friends. Pallbearers were A. E. Krueger, E. W. Johnson, E. G. Stallard, J. H. Stallard, Floyd Thompson and W. E. Waters. Interment was in Mentor cemetery.
