Turner, Albert ( 20 Nov. 1846 - 23 Oct. 1922)

Mr. Albert Turner died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Will Walls of Monday, Oct. 23rd, 1922, after an illness of over a year. He was the son of Abel and Mary Turner and was born in the town of Rome, Somerset Co., Maine, Nov. 20, 1846. When a young man he came with his parents to what was then called Staffordville, north of Neillsville. In 1873 he was married to Miss Mary Davis at Augusta, Wis. To this union were born two children, Elva, and now Mrs. Will Walls, and one son, Allie C. Turner, who died in 1918. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, two granddaughters, one sister, Mrs. T. Garvin of Portland, Oregon, and six brothers, Abie, Warren, Frank, Newell and Reul.

Mr. Turner was one of the oldest settlers of Clark County, having come here about 65 years ago, when there was almost nothing at Neillsville and this country was a wilderness. He logged and drove team in those early days and endured the hardships of the early pioneer, of which he know but little. No man ever was a better neighbor, and he always stood ready to be of assistance. His kindly nature made many friends. He lied for many years in York, and in 1913 moved to Loyal, where he lived until a little over a year ago.

The funeral service were held in Methodist church at Loyal Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. J. H. Chatterson officiating.

Burial was made in the Loyal cemetery.
