Wilcox, Wisconsin: March 7, 1894

Mud, mud, mud. Ernie, did you catch on last Sunday?

Miss Elva Turner and brother Allie visited friends at Neillsville the fore part of last week.

I. Fulwiler transacted business at Granton and at the office of the town clerk, Wednesday.

Jesse Humiston and daughter Olive visited in the vicinity of Spencer last week.

Elder Hoffman and wife were making calls last week and we find them very sociable people.

L.A. Crocker closed school in District No. 2 last Friday and intends to start soon for his home at Tunnel City.

A surprise birthday party was given last Wednesday evening in honor of Miss Lois Lawrence. Those present had a delightful time and at a late hour went home rejoicing.

H.S. Chase contemplates to moving his family to Missouri where he intends to take up his abode.

We believe in religion but we do not believe in having it forced on anybody. It was not until we heard the caw of the crow that we were reminded that spring was at hand again.

The store building has rather a gloomy appearance now.

Did you attend the dance at Jack Young's Saturday eve? A surprise party and dance was given in honor of Johnny Ebbe Friday night, it being his birthday, and all present indulged in a joyous time.

Miss Lizzie Tisher started for Racine Saturday, where she will remain during the summer.

Mrs. L.A. Fulwiler and Miss Lois Lawrence spent a few days at Granton last week with Mrs. E.M. Rowe and assisted in placing household articles, as Mrs. Rowe has just moved to her new home.

Frank Snyder contemplates leaving us this summer. His profession is that of a pedagogue, and May success and prosperity attend him.

Charlie Campbell and son Bill went to Humbird Saturday on a visit. Ernest Rowe is chore boy for his uncle at present. Mr. Craig has taken possession of the old Ed Bassett place.

M.V. Visgar and Son started their saw mill last week.

James Davidson and wife, of Lynn, were seen on our streets one day last week.

Richard Free broke camp last Saturday until colder weather comes again. Miss Etta Whitcomb was seen in our midst Friday last.

Word was received here Saturday of the death of the (Cassius A. Johnson b. 28 Dec 1868-d. 2 Mar 1894) youngest son of Joshua (& Sarah Jane Huyck) Johnson which occurred at his home at Montevideo, Minnesota last week. The remains were interred in the Neillsville Cemetery yesterday. Deceased was a former resident of this place and leaves a wife, parents, one brother and one sister to mourn his early departure.
