Nagel, Johanna Marie (09 Feb 1829 - 13 Apr 1908)

Mrs. Johanna Marie Nagel was born in Kasimershof, Province of Pomerania, Germany on February 9th, 1829, she was married to Fredrick Nagel, in 1849, died in this village at 3 o’clock PM April 13th 1908, of heart disease and dropsy.

After a long, busy and useful life she died as she had lived - honored, trusted and loved. She reared her own monument while she lived the hearts of all who knew her. Her life was completed if work all and well done constitutes completion. Her Christian life was beautiful from its beginning to its close, and thru all the vicissitudes and sorrows that she met in the way, her faith in God never wavered.

From the citizens of this fair town that she loved so well, day after day went up the silent prayer:

"Not here, O Death, not here, Is there no other flower for thee to take? All the world is thine, and for its sake Oh! come not here."

But alas, "Death loves a shining mark" - and so it came.

She immigrated to America with her husband in 1879, to Calumet County, Wisconsin, where they lived two years, and from there moved to Town Holton on the farm now occupied by her son Charley. In 1898 they moved to Dorchester and made their home with their son Frank, where in 1900 her husband died. They had eight children, five boys and three girls, of which Charley, August and Frank are the only survivors.

The deceased was 79 years and 2 months of age on the day of her death.

The funeral was held last Monday afternoon from the St. Peter’s Evang. Lutheran Church, Rev. F. M. Moecker officiating.
