Walk, Maria (24 DEC 1843 - 26 Jan 1925)

Mrs. Maria Walk, one of the older residents of this city (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.), died at her home Monday night at 11:37, Jan. 26, 1925, aged 81 years, 2 months and 2 days. Mrs. Walk, whose maiden name was Maria Herbst, was born in Germany, Dec. 24, 1843. She grew to womanhood there, and in 1868 was married to Carl Walk and together they sailed for America, immediately after their marriage. They settled in Jefferson Co., Wis., making their home there until 1888, when they moved to Clark County and bought a farm in Pine Valley, southeast of Neillsville. They developed this into a beautiful home, residing there until 1913, when they moved to the city. Mr. Walk died Aug. 4, 1916, and since then she has continued to live alone, looking after the affairs of her home. She was very strong and active until about a year ago, when she began to show weakness due to old age. Her strength gradually declined, with no specific disease, until she peacefully passed away. Hers was a life filled with useful work and devotion. Her home and family were cared for with skillful hands and loving heart, and beyond the circle of her own home she extended her kindly help and sympathies. She leaves surviving four sons: Carl in business in Neillsville, Paul and Rudolph of Clarkston, Wash., and John, rural mail carrier on Route 1, Neillsville. She leaves also 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Five daughters died in infancy.

The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at St. John's Lutheran Church, of which deceased had been a faithful member ever since she came to this county.
