-Owens, John (15 June 1868* - 24 March 1925)

John Owens died at his home in Pine Valley at 6:45 Tuesday morning, March 24, 1925, after an illness of less than a week, which began with acute indigestion. He was born in Canada, June 15, 1868* (* or 1863), and came to this locality over 50 years ago, and has made his home here ever since. On September 15, 1885 he was married to Miss Isabella Barrett, who survives him.

He worked quietly and industriously on his farm, and did not mingle much with public affairs nor in neighborhood matters, but he had no enemies, and was a genial pleasant man to meet.

Besides his wife he is survived by one son and five daughters, namely, Hazel, Mrs. John Wicklein, Abercrombie, N. D.; Mildred, Mrs. A. J. Starke, Valley City, N. D.; Ruth Owen, Columbus, Ohio; Gladys, Mrs. Walter Stack, Garfield, Utah; Homer Owen at home; Beatrice, Mrs. O. A. Johnson, Neillsville. He leaves also seven grandchildren; also eight brothers and sisters; Richard and Chauncey Owens both of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Mrs. Anton Barton, Mrs. Wm. Barton, Mrs. C. M. Bradford and James Owens, all of Neillsville; Mrs. Arthur Windover, Dallas, Oregon and William Owens of Pine Valley.

The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at the M. E. Church, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating.
