Hansen, Ole C. (9 JUL 1859 - 7 JUN 1927)

Ole C. Hansen was born at Treten-Golbransdalen, Norway, July 9, 1859, and died at him home on Grand Ave., Neillsville, Clark County, Wis., June 7, 1927, aged 67 years, 10 months and 28 days. He was the oldest son of Hans and Martha Englegaard and according to the custom of his native land, took the name of Hansen. He grew to manhood in Norway, working on a farm. When 22 years of age he started out alone for America, spending a year at Coney Island when he first landed. He then came to Wisconsin, working for awhile in Westby, coming to Clark County later and working in lumber camps and on farms near Withee and Curtiss. In 1889 he came to Neillsville. Being naturally mechanical, he picked up considerable knowledge and skill at carpentry, and began to work quite steadily at that trade though doing any other useful work when employment could not be found at carpenter work. In 1881 he was married in Neillsville to Miss Nettie Haukhum, who survives him.

Mr. Hansen became an expert workman at his trade and was employed on some of the best buildings in this city, where careful and faithful workmanship was required. He was well-liked by everyone for his courtesy, his honest and gentlemanliness under all circumstances. He remained active in his work until only a few weeks before his death, when he was suddenly taken ill; all that his family could do for him in the way of care and medical assistance was done, but he gradually grew weaker, his heart suddenly failed and he passed away just before midnight Tuesday, June 7.

Besides his wife, Mr. Hansen is survived by five children: Tillie, Mrs. Art Wiedekind, Neillsville; Henry of Perth, N. D.; Floyd of Detroit; Myrtle at home; Erna in Milwaukee. He leaves also two brothers, Anton of black River Falls and Chris of Kenosha, and two sisters, Mrs. M. Dahl of Rugby, N.D., and Hannah in Norway.

The funeral was held Friday afternoon at the Congregational Church, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. The Modern Woodmen, of which deceased was a member, attended in a body, their burial ceremony also being used.
