--Hewett, Elizabeth (1 March 1866 - 19 March 1926)

Mrs. Harry Hewett passed away at the hospital at Eau Claire Friday evening, March 19. She had not been in good health for some time, and had gone to the hospital in hopes of obtaining treatment that would bring relief, but it was of no avail. Elizabeth McKenzie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel McKenzie, was born in Sterling Village, Ontario, March 1, 1866. In 1879 she came with her parents to Seymour, Outagamie Count, Wisconsin, where they lived two years, and then moved to the town of Loyal in Clark County, when the family settled upon a new farm.

On May 30, 1888, she was married to Harry Hewett in the city of Neillsville and they began housekeeping on land in the town of Eaton, which was developed into a good farm. In 1913 they moved to Neillsville , Mr. Hewett being elected Sheriff. When his term expired they moved back to the farm, remaining two years. Mr. Hewett being again elected for Sheriff, they came back to Neillsville, residing here during 1917-18. During the winter and spring of 1919 they lived in Madison, Mr. Hewett being elected Member of Assembly from this county. At the close of the session they returned to Neillsville, purchasing a fine residence here, which has been their home ever since, Mr. Hewett being in the employ of the state.

Mrs. Hewett was a quiet, home-loving woman, always looking on the good side of the events of life and on the better qualities in the character of people whom she met; she never spoke evil of anyone, and was ever ready to help and cheer those who were downhearted or in need of a friend. She was a kind and living wife and mother and will be sadly missed in the home.

She leaves her husband, a son James, and a daughter, Bessie: a daughter, Gladys May, died in 1893, aged 2 years. She leaves also two brothers, Samuel and Daniel McKenzie of Milwaukee, both of whom were here to attend the funeral; a nephew Dan Hewett of Milwaukee, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Max Heaslett of Loyal, also attended the funeral, which was held at the home Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Rawson of the Presbyterian church officiating. Burial took place in the family lot in Loyal cemetery.
