Filitz, Otto Frederick (12 April 1854 - 15 June 1926)

Otto Frederick Filitz passed away at St. Joseph’s hospital Tuesday evening, June 15th at the age of 72 years. His health had gradually been failing him for the last few months.

He was born in Germany April 12th, 1854, and came to this country with his parents at the age of 12 yeas. Then the lived in Cedarburg, Wis., for sometime, later moving to Minnesota where he made his home for 30 years.

In 1898 he was united in marriage to Minnie Ehlers. They then moved to a farm south of Neillsville which has since been his home.

To this union were born four children: Herbert, Elmer, Martha and Leda, all residing at home. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and four children, one sister, Mrs. A. W. Steffen of Milwaukee and one brother, Fed of Winona, Minnesota.

Mr. Filitz was a most excellent citizen, an industrious farmer, honest in all of his dealing a kind husband and father and an accommodating neighbor.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. Hauser, beginning at the home at 1 p.m. Friday, continued at the Reformed Church at 1:45 p.m. Interment at the Neillsville Cemtery. A quartette consisting of Mr. B. Stucki and the Misses Matthes and Gander of the Indian School and Rev. Hauser sang at the church and at the grave, while some of the neighbors sang at the home. Many floral tributes, testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held.

Those from away who attended the funeral were: Miss Hilda Filitz of Winona, Minn.; Mr. Arthur Filitz of Cedarburg, Wis.; A. W. Steffen of Milwaukee; Herman Gilow of Minneiska, Minn.; Wilton Klawitter, Wm. Ehlers and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Ehlers of Winona, Minn.
