Counsell, Herbert (17 NOV 1889 - 8 JUN 1928)

Herbert Counsell, a prominent young farmer of the town of Grant, Clark County, Wis. passed away at the hospital in Marshfield, Friday afternoon, June 8, 1928, aged 38 years, 6 months and 21 days.

A few weeks ago while disking a rough piece of ground he got a light abrasion of the skin on his back, which later became infected. The wound apparently healed, however, and it was thought to be of no importance. Serious symptoms later began to develop and on Monday of last week he became very ill and was taken to Marshfield Hospital. It was found that a subtle poison had spread through his entire system, and with it pneumonia developed, a complication with which no medical treatment seemed able to cope.

Herbert Counsell was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Counsell and was born Nov. 17, 1889, and grew to manhood on the home farm on Pleasant Ridge. On April 9, 1913 he was married to Miss Maude Raine of the town of Pine Valley, Clark County, Wis. and they began housekeeping on the J. Benedict farm, which he bought, and which together they further improved and developed into a beautiful farm home. Mr. Counsell was very industrious and progressive in his business, an intelligent citizen, a helpful and obliging neighbor, and in his home life, a kind and loving husband and father. From a limited human standpoint his death just at the time of his mature strength and experience, when his home and community seemed to need him so much, appears to be, indeed, a great irreparable loss. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Ila; one daughter, Fae, preceded him in death. He leaves also his parents who live in Neillsville, a brother, Clarion, on the old home farm on Pleasant Ridge, two sisters, Mrs. Leander Olia of Osseo and Mrs. Milford Rowe of Neillsville, besides many more distant relatives who mourn with them.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist Church in Neillsville, Rev. S. J. Lambright officiating.

Those from a distance attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dettman of Adell, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. William Dettman of Waukesha; August Dettman, Aurora, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Webster, daughter and son, Platteville; Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Lindsey and two daughters of Cuba City; George Raine, Cuba City; William Uhren, Belmont; Mr. and Mrs. Leander Olia, Osseo, and Mr. and Mrs. George Huckstead of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Shedden of Carnden.
