Handke, Amanda (15 April 1878 - 1 April 1930)

Mrs. Fred Handke passed away about noon Tuesday, April 1, in the hospital at Marshfield where she had undergone an operation for gall trouble and other complications.

Amanda Kurth was born at Kurth’s Corners in the town of Grant, April 15, 1878. She grew to womanhood there and on April 15, 1903, she was married to Frederick Handke of West Bend, Wis. He had bought land in the town of York and on this they settled soon after their marriage and developed a fine farm home.

Mrs. Handke was a woman of remarkable efficiency in the home and community and had a capacity for friendliness and sympathy which won for her a wide circle of friends.

She leaves her husband and three children: Carl, who teaches in the high school at Wild Rose; Walter, who took an agricultural, course at Madison and has a position in Grant County; Frances at home. She leaves also two brothers, Robert Kurth of Neillsville, Wm. Kurth of the town of Grant and one sister, Mrs. George Wi???ng of Hawthorne, Calif.

The funeral was held from Zion’s Lutheran Church on Friday, Rev. Diemar officiating. The large number in attendance at the funeral indicated the wide circle of her friendship.
