Delong, Sarah (9 FEB 1836 - 12 Jul 1909)

After a month's illness following an attack of cerebral apoplexy, Mrs. James C. Delong died at her home in this village (Humbird, Clark County, Wis.) at about five o'clock Monday morning, July 12, 1909, at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 3 days.

Mrs. Delong had partially recovered from the attack and Mr. Delong has again started with his work. He was in the vicinity of Granton and was summoned home as soon as a change was noticed in her condition. He reached her bedside before noon Sunday, but she was in an unconscious state from which she never revived.

Mrs. Delong, whose maiden name was Sarah Murney, was a native of Canada, born in Prince Edward Co., in Ontario Province, Feb. 9, 1836. On July 15, 1859, she was married to Mr. J. C. Delong, fifty years ago Thursday, and preparations had been made by the family to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. But death intervened and took the beloved wife and mother from the home. Eight children were born to this union, of whom but two grew to manhood and womanhood, Charlie of Chicago and Mrs. W. E. Campbell of this place.

Mr. and Mrs. Delong located at Sheboygan Falls in 1867, and in the spring of 1883 they moved here, settling on a farm a mile and a half north of town. Seven years ago they moved into the village where they have since resided.

To mourn the death of a kind and loving wife and mother are left, her husband, one son, one daughter, seven grandchildren, one sister, and a host of friends.

Mrs. Delong was a faithful and devoted member of the F. M. Church, from which church funeral services were ehld Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor Rev. W. B. Good, and the high esteem in which she was held in this community was shown by the large congregations present at the services. The interment was in the Mentor Cemetery.

Those from away present at the funeral were: Charlie Delong, Chicago; Conrad Delong and wife, Sheboygan Falls; Charles Campbell, Harry and Guy Campbell, York Center; Miss Winn, Granton; Oscar Brown and wife, Black River Falls.
