Lindow Family, Vernon

The Vernon Lindow family farm is located 2 1/2 miles southeast of Chili, Clark County, Wis., in the town of Fremont. This farm will be a hundred years old in 1980 and has been the home for five generations of Lindows.

In 1880 Vernon's grandparents William and Sylvina Lindow started this farm with eighty acres of wooded land. They cleared some of the land, using the logs for their buildings and began farming. They had two children, Mable and Luther.

Luther was married in 1909 to Helen Drescher and they had three children, Milo, Victor and Vernon. Luther continued farming when his folks retired and moved to Chili.

Vernon was married April 6, 1945, to Iris Neinas, daughter of Clarence and Lillian Neinas, also lifelong residents of Chili. They farmed with his folks until 1958 when Luther passed away and Vernon took over the farm. Vernon and Iris are the parents of two children, Michael and Marilyn.

On Dec. 7, 1968, Michael was married to the former Donna Wolfe of Aniwa. They have two daughters, Kimberly Kay and Kristin Rae. Michael and his family live in the farm house built by his great-grandfather, William Lindow. Vernon, Iris and daughter Marilyn live in the new home, which they built on the farm just south of the old house. Marilyn is a registered nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

The Vernon and Michael Lindow families now own three hundred acres of land and are farming in partnership, raising dairy cattle and Purebred Duroc hogs.
