Hillert Family, Walter

The farm was purchased in 1910 from Ehrhardts by Gottlieb Hillert.

The ownership then descended to his son Fred Hillert who married the former Barbara Frei. They were parents of four children, two sons and two daughters. One daughter, Velda, is deceased, as are the parents. The other daughter, Frieda, lives at Rural Route, Granton, Clark County. One son, Harold, lives at Waterford, Wis.

Ownership of the farm descended to Walter Hillert, son of Fred Hillert who lives on the farm. He has owned and operated the farm since the early 1940's, and in December of 1950 he bought a sawmill, which he operated in conjunction with the farm.

Then in August of 1962, Walter Hillert and the former Margaret Lichte were married. They are the parents of five daughters, Rose Lea, Barbara Marie, Jeanette Lynn, Patricia Cheryl and Peggy Carol, twins; and one son, Dennis Daryl.

The past couple years Walter Hillert has worked at the Ed Ploman Tie Mills of Chili as a part time winter job to add to farm income.

Thank you for the information. Gottlieb Hillert (1848-1936, father of Fred Hillert and Richard Hillert Sr. (1891-1985) was my grandfather. I lived on the "home place" on Starr Road, Granton, for the first 24 years of my life. Gottlieb Hillert married Augusta Theide in 1873. They were the parents of 11 children.
