Werle, Edward (20 JUN 1887 - 9 OCT 1918)

EDWARD WERLE LID TO REST

Private Edward W. Werle of Co. G. 14th Ammunition Train, Camp Custer, Mich., died of influenza, pneumonia, at the base hospital Camp Custer, Battlecreek, Mich., Oct. 9th after an illness of only four days, at the age of 31 years, 3 mo. 19 days.

The deceased was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Werle, was born June 20th, 1887 in the town of Loyal.

He spent the most of his life at home with his parents, going to Towner, N. Dak. About three years ago. In occupation he was a farmer.

On July 22nd he was called into service and was sent to Camp Custer for training, where he has faithfully served his country. Even though he did not lose his life on the battlefield, he is no less a hero, for he was ready to do his share in winning the war.

He was a young man of splendid principles and his death in early manhood is sincerely mourned by many. Another life has been sacrificed to uphold the principles of freedom, another gold star added to our service flag.

In 1908 the deceased became a member of the Evan. Church at Spokeville, of which he was a member until the past summer when he united with the Advent church at Towner, N. Dak.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his parents, four sisters, Mrs. Geo. Dollhoff of Milwaukee, Clara, Emma and Ella at home, three brothers, Adolph at Winfield, Kan., Robert in the state of Wash., and Priv. John on his way to France, all of whom were present at the funeral, except the two latter.

On account of the present epidemic a military funeral could not be held. Funeral services were private and were held at the home at Spokeville at 2 p.m. and were conducted by Rev. Scheulke of Marshfield. Burial was in the Loyal Cemetery.

The family have the sympathy of all in their bereavement.
