Coryell, Marie (26 JUN 1926)

A very pretty wedding took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mellien, Chicago, on June 26th, 1926, when Miss Marie Coryell of Loyal, Clark County, Wis. became the bride of Mr. Russell Mellien of Lake Geneva, Wis.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mellien, the former a brother of the groom, celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary and gave a house warming party the same evening so that the wedding came as a surprise to most of the friends and relatives present. Every effort was put forth to make the wedding an occasion to be long remembered by the bride and groom.

The home was attractively decorated. At one end of the living room where the ceremony was performed, palms formed a beautiful arch, in the center of which hung a large white wedding bell. Ferns formed a beautiful background to the scene.

At 8:30 after all the guests had arrived, Mr. E. Hineline, a friend of the groom, began to play the wedding march, "Here Comes the Bride," and as Mr. and Mrs. Mellien, only attendants of the bridal couple, entered everyone expected a mock marriage. A surprise came to all when Miss Marie Coryell in bridal attire made her way slowly to the side of the groom, who had entered unnoticed and was silently awaiting her beneath the arch. The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Raymond of the Congregational Church.

The bride was lovely in a bouffant gown of white silk taffeta made with a taffeta bodice and the skirt heavily flounced with lace and tulle. She wore a filmy veil of tulle held in place by a wreath of orange blossoms. The only ornament that adorned her was a rope of pearls, a gift of the groom. A shower bouquet of white roses and lilies of the valley completed her bridal attire. Mrs. Frank Mellien, matron of honor was dressed in bronze flat crepe and carried a bouquet of blue lark spur and yellow roses.

After the ceremony was performed and the bride and groom had received best wishes for the happiness and hearty congratulations from all, a fine wedding supper was enjoyed. The table was attractive in yellow and white, the color scheme being carried out in the large wedding cake.

Later in the evening the happy couple made their escape amid showers of rice and best wishes for the future from all. After a short wedding trip they will return to their former positions and will be at home to friends and relatives after November 20th.

Forty guests were present at the wedding including all of the immediate family of the groom and Miss Myrtle Coryell of Wesley Memorial Hospital, sister of the bride. Unfortunately it was impossible for the parents and other sisters and brothers of the latter to attend. Miss Florence Herdrich of Loyal, an intimate friend, was one of the guests.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Coryell of Loyal and was graduated from our local high school with the class of 1923 and completed a teaching course at Eau Claire Normal. She is well….(the rest of my copy was cut off)
