Tibbett, William F. (*19 Nov. 1863 - 2 March 1932) *Done on date calculator; date could be off.

William F. Tibbett passed away at his home in this city Wednesday, March 2, after an illness of several months, aged 68years, 3 months and 12 days.

Mr. Tibbett was born in Milwaukee Nov. 20, 1863. When he was three years old he went with his family to Chippewa Falls, then a small lumbering village. There he grew to manhood, at an early age going into lumber camps to work. He began at the bottom of the lumber business and worked at nearly every job along the line in that industry, finally becoming the superintendent of all the logging operations of the New Dells Lumber Co. of Eau Claire, remaining in their employ until they close out their logging. The last of their work was in the vicinity of Neillsville. About four years ago he came here and bought tracts of timber fro the company and a year or so later took charge of the logging, moving to Neillsville, before finishing this work. In connection with his two sons, George F. and John W. he established the Tibbett Ice and Fuel Co. and built up a good business.

During the years he carried on the logging operation for the New Dells Co., he employed thousands of different men, and was very popular with the men whom he employed. It is said of him that he retained the good will of even the men whom he discharged, as he was careful to do justice in all cases, and was always watchful to further the interests of the employees. During his many years of superintendence there were some years of hard times and in those days he befriended many who always remembered his kindness.

Mr. Tibbett was married to Miss Sophia Gehweiler at Chippewa Falls in 1898. She and their four sons survive him -- William R. of St. Louis; Thomas E. of New York; George F. and John W. of Neillsville. He leaves also six grandchildren. The body was taken to Chippewa Falls for burial, funeral services being held at Notre Dame Church Monday morning, Rev. Fr. Manning officiating.
