Beeckler, E. A. (April 26, 1854-)

Funeral services and Masonic rites will be conducted Wednesday afternoon for E. A. Beeckler, Granton’s 90-year-old pioneer resident, who died Sunday afternoon at the Neillsville Hospital, the result of a fall in the basement of his home a week earlier.

After a service at 2 o’clock at the Beeckler home, the body will be taken to the Village Hall for Masonic rites at 2:15 o’clock. The Rev. F. A. Fahlgren, Neillsville, will speak, and burial will take place in Windfall cemetery beside his wife and two sons, Mrs. Beeckler preceded him in death in July, 1937.

Mr. Beeckler was born in Westminster, Canada, April 26, 1854, and when but a small boy he accompanied his parents to Sheboygan County, where they settled on a farm near Waldo. When he was 18 years old he began teaching rural school and came to Clark County in 1878 to teach school in the Lynn district.

He followed this profession for several years, later taking up farming, and for several years he operated a sawmill. He served as teacher, director, and clerk of the local district at various times, and since moving to the Village of Granton has served several terms as justice of the peace.

His eight children surviving are George Beeckler, Neillsville; Bessie, Pearle, and Daphne Beeckler, at home; Mrs. Raymond (Haidee) Smith, Milwaukee; Mr. Earl (Thressa) Pickett, Spencer; and Mrs. Clark (Vera) Waterman and Ben Beeckler, Granton. Eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.

A son, Rex, was killed in World War I and a grandson, James Waterman, was killed in a plane crash on Oahu, Hawaii, on May 12 of this year.
