I wouldn't know where to begin with my wonderful memories of attending 1st thru 5th grade there. The school closed after that and we all went into Greenwood. At West Eaton we were able to wear jeans any day unlike once at Greenwood we girls had to dress up like "little ladies". I loved playing in the ash pile up in the far northeast corner of the property. I can see it is still there covered with brush. Playing down in the basement on poor weather days was also fun. The school put on great Christmas productions and we got to help build the stage. I can just smell the burlap curtains and see the boards brought up from the basement for the stage. I also can smell the gooey part of the mimograph machine which made copies of papers. What about those horse pills for Iodine. And the 1 x a week chocolate milk. Henry Lamovec will tell the story of how "little Nancy Arch" pushed him into the flag pole just before we were having our school pictures taken. He knows that I still say he drove me to it. Any one has to be wondering how I dealt with those "ears" as a child. Well believe me they still stick out and they still bug me. The neat thing about going to West Eaton is that our parents and aunts and uncles did as well and that makes it extra special. There is a long line of memories it holds for many of us. Even though the school was removed many years ago, driving past the property is like it is still standing there. Nancy Arch Karlin
