Walk, Paul (8 Feb. 1871 - 27 Jan. 1933)

Word came to relatives here last week that Paul Walk had passed away at his home in Clarkston, Wash., Jan. 27, 1933, the cause of his death being heart trouble.

Paul J. Walk was born Feb. 8, 1871, at Farmington, Jefferson County, Wis. He attended school at Jefferson and at the age of 11 years became a charter member of the Arion Cornet band.

At the age of 16 he came to Clark county, his parents locating on their farm in southeast Pine Valley. The following year Paul started to clerk for B. Dangers in his store in Neillsville, continuing to work for Dangers and Frankenberg and late for B. E. Lrethe. In 1895 Paul and his brother Carl founded the firm of Walk Bros. And went into the mercantile business on the corner later occupied by Frank P. Hemp. After a few years Walk Bros. Built the brick building now occupied by Unger's shoe store and a portion located adjoining and now the site of the Prochazka Bros. Store. Jan. 1, 1905 Walk Bros dissolved partnership, Carl going to Abbotsford and three years later to Bay City, Mich., where Paul in 1910 joined him again selling his interest in the store here to H. L. Albright.

Selling out at Bay City Paul and his family and his wife's parents went to California and other places in the west, settling at Clarkston, Wash., which remained his home. He had a fruit ranch there, also a grocery store.

Paul was a genial, cheerful man, greatly like by his associates and customers in business. He was always active in the community affairs and helped in all public enterprises. During his residence here he was a member of St. John's Lutheran church and always took part in its work. For a number of years he was active in the local band and for some time was trumpeter in old Co. A.

He was married at Jefferson, Wis. Aug. 20, 1896 to Miss Mary Reindfleisch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Reindfleisch. She with two sons and one daughter survive him, all at Clarkston, Wash. He leaves also two brothers, Rudolph, of Lewiston, Ida.; and John L., of Neillsville.
