Lowell T Dvorak, age 68, of Merrillan, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, in Family Heritage Care Center, Black River Falls.

Lowell was born Aug. 30, 1934 in Black River Falls to Joseph and Esther (Meyer) Dvorak. He was raised in the Black River Falls area, Alma Center and Merrillan. He graduated from Alma Center Lincoln High School. While in school, Lowell excelled in sports and band and received the Arien Award. He was an excellent baseball pitcher and pitched for both the Black River Falls City Team and the Neillsville City Team. Lowell later served in the U. S. Army.

He married the former Agnes "Aggie" Kasprzak* on Feb. 4, 1956, in Milwaukee. The couple lived in Milwaukee for six years and then in Hartland for 15 years. In 1977 they moved to Merrillan. Aggie Dvorak died on Jan. 18, 2003.

While living in Milwaukee, Lowell was employed at Allis Chalmers. He later became employed as a truck driver for the U.S. Government. In Hartland, he was employed at American Motors. From 1971 to 1983, Lowell and Aggie were partial owners of the Inwood of Hatfield and also worked there from 1977 to 1983. In 1983, Lowell became a bartender at the Pines Motor Lodge of Black River Falls. After retiring from the Pines, he became a bartender at the Deer View Lodge of Hatfield.

Lowell was a member of the Merrillan United Methodist Church and the Jackson County Wildlife Fund. He had been a member and served on the council of Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Hartland and was also a former member of the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church. He served as a fireman and a first responder with the Hatfield Fire Department.

Surviving Lowell is a daughter, Sharon (Jeff) Peterson, of Black River Falls; a son, Tim (Carla) Dvorak, of West Salem; four grandchildren, Guerra Peterson, of La Crosse, Lucas Peterson, of Black River Falls, and Hannah and Kaitlyn Dvorak both of Sparta; a step-grandson, Rick Johnson, of West Salem; and four brothers, Elwood, of Black River Falls, Douglas (Rosemary), of Hatfield, Gayle (Noreen), of Bloomington, IN and Dennis (DeeDee), of West Allis.

Preceding Lowell in death is his wife, Aggie, his bride of 47 years, his parents and a son, David.

Funeral services were held June 30, at the Merrillan United Methodist Church with the Rev. Meg Erickson officiating. Casket bearers were Guerra Peterson, Lucas Peterson, Mike Myers, Russ Simonis, A.J. Dvorak, and Rick Dvorak.

Buswell Funeral Home of Black River Falls assisted the family.

*Agnes "Aggie" Kasprzak attended the Bruce Mound School in the Township of Dewhurst. (This note is by Dolores who will be writing a story on the Bruce Mound School soon.)
