Wendel, George (19 MAR 1853 - 15 OCT 1929)

George Wendel, well known resident of our community passed into the great beyond at 10 minutes before midnight, Tuesday, Oct. 15, 1929, after an illness of several months.

Mr. Wendel was born March 19, 1853, in Jefferson county. On Nov. 1, 1881, he was united in marriage with Miss Katherine Moser. They purchased a farm in Jefferson county living there ten years. They ten sold their farm and moved to a farm near Loyal, where they resided continuously up to his death. The union was blessed with eleven children, six preceding the father in death. A brother Joe and a sister, Mrs. Joe Leabel also proceeded the deceased into the Great Beyond.

Mr. Wendel leaves a sorrowing widow, two sons, Joe and Frank, both of Loyal, the latter living on the homestead; three daughters, Katherine, Mrs. Paul Gravitter, Eaton Center, Frances, Mrs. Rudolph Gravitter, Marshfield, and Susan, Mrs. John Steger, Marshfield. He also leaves two brothers, Tony and Frank of Jefferson; five sisters, Mrs. Ferd Schweiger of Loyal, Mrs. Pauline Barnett of Milwaukee; Mrs. John Betzold, Mrs. Fred Hamma, Mrs. Joe Hauser all of Jefferson and nine grandchildren, besides other relatives and host of friends.

Funeral services were held at St. Balthasar’s Catholic Church Saturday afternoon at 9 o’clock with internment in the Catholic Cemetery. The Rev. Father Joseph Stenz, the Rev. Father William Daniels of Greenwood and the Rev. Father Toeller of Marshfield officiated.

Joe Wedl, John Elsinger, F. Bauer, Albert Davel, Frank Klimmer and Tom Froeba were the Pall Bearers and Mrs. Joe Wedl, Mrs. John Haas, and Mrs. Alois Braun were the flower girls. The sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved.
