Swienton, Richard 'Swede' V. (1 Sept. 1933 - 25 March 2005)

w/flag THORP -Richard "Swede" Vernon Swienton, 71, of Thorp died Friday, March 25, 2005, at his home.

Military graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at New St. Hedwig's Cemetery in Thorp. A social gathering at Thorp American Legion Hall will be held following the service.

Thorp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

He was born Sept. 1, 1933, in Stanley to Frank and Evelyn (Brenner) Swienton. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 11th Airborne Division in Germany during the Korean War. He married Sylvia Petrulis at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church and they later divorced. Swede was employed on the maintenance crew for the city of Thorp until his retirement.

Surviving are his son, Michael (Trisha) Swienton, Fort Leonardwood, Mo.; two grandchildren; and his sister, Marcella Knajdek, St. Paul, Minn.
