Yakaites, Bernice E. (2 April 1914 - 3 May 2005)

Bernice E. Yakaites, 91, of 1407 N. Peach Ave., died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, in the emergency room of Saint Joseph's Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2005, at Christ Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark A. Krueger officiating. Providing music will be Mary Castner, organist along with the grandchildren as the vocalists.

Burial will be in Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in March Rapids, Marathon County. Pallbearers will be Jeff, Grant, Mike and David Reckner, Rick Schneck and Dan Mook.

Visitations will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until time of services Monday at the church.

Bernice was born on April 2, 1914, in the town of Brighton, Marathon County, to Leonard E. and Dorothy (Schwantes) Nickel. She attended Enterprise School and graduated from Unity High School. She was united in marriage to Herman P. Reckner on Nov. 18, 1931, in Unity. He died on May 14, 1963.

They operated a dairy farm in the town of Eau Pleine, Marathon County, until the death of her husband, Herman. Her second marriage was to Anthony Yakaites on Sept. 12, 1973, at Christ Lutheran Church. She then worked as a waitress for the Downtown Restaurant and in the food service department at Saint Joseph's Hospital. Bernice volunteered for many years in the gift shop of Saint Joseph's Hospital. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid.

Bernice is survived by her children, Jerry (Sandy) Reckner of Milwaukee, Jim (Pat) Reckner of Spencer, Shirley (Jim) Paap of Fremont, Ohio, and Ken (Paulette) Reckner of Marshfield; two stepchildren, Dale (Gail) Yakaites and Diane Yakaites of Fond du Lac; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Reckner; two grandsons, Steve Reckner and David Schneck; and two sisters, Neola Kauffman and Vera Schade.

Memorials May be given in Bernice's name to Christ Lutheran Church.
