Wenger, August J. H. (2 Oct. 1860 - *24 Sept. 1933) * Could be off.

August Wegner, a pioneer of the town of Pine Valley, passed peacefully away Sunday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Stelloh, in Neillsville.

For the past four years his health has been failing, from heart trouble, but he was able to be about most of the time, staying at the homes of his children. About four weeks ago he was brought to Neillsville for closer medical supervision, and after remaining at the hospital a few days went to the Fred Stelloh home.

Sunday he was feeling especially well and cheerful, taking his meals with the family. He was also taken for an automobile ride, as he expressed a desire to see some of the old familiar places he had known since early life.

After supper he sat talking with Mr. Stelloh, going over old times and reminiscences of older friends, when suddenly his head dropped and without a tremor or a struggle he passed to the Great Beyond.

August J. H. Wegner was born Oct. 2, 1860, at Dargeslaw Treplow, Germany being the son of Carl and Louise, nee Waldow, Wegner.

At the age of 12 he came with his parents to America, the family settling in the town of Pine Valley, Clark County. He attended the local district school and later a Lutheran parochial school in the town of Grant. He was confirmed by the first pastor of this church, Rev. Witte.

On coming to manhood he engaged in various occupations, working in logging camps in winter, and harvest fields in summer. For some time he clerked in the old Reddan House in Neillsville. In 1881 he purchased the farm which remained his home until his death. Oct. 20, 1883, he was married to Miss Louise Hemp of the town of Weston, to which union four children were born: Aleada, Mrs. Wm. Adams, now residing on his homestead; Olgiene, Mrs. Dan Gluch, town of Grant; Elsie, Mrs. Fred Stelloh, Neillsville, and Arthur of the town of Seif.

Mr. Wegner was a man of high character and greatly respected by all who knew him. He held several offices in the town, serving on the school board and was also active in the affairs of his church, being secretary and trustee of the same for many years.

His wife preceded him in death nine years ago, and since that time he has made his home with his children.

Besides his children he leaves to mourn his loss one brother, Fred, Wegner of Pine Valley, one sister, Mrs. W. Winn of Neillsville, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from his home and the Pine Valley Lutheran Church, Rev. J. G. Buth officiating.
