White, Maud(JUL 1979 - 7 Mar 1881)

Died, in this village (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), on Monday, the 7th inst., of Cerebral Spinal Meningitis, Maud, the only remaining child of Mr. and Mrs. N. J. White, aged 1 year and 8 months.

As the congregation was leaving the school house on Sunday, the sad intelligence that Myrtie White was dying and perhaps was even then on the other shore, was with abated breath conveyed from one to another, but the next morning when it had become known that little Maudie must fall a victim to the fell destroyer too, then indeed, was the cup of sorrow filled to overflowing. Little Myrtie was a bright and beautiful sunny haired child of three summers, loved by all who knew her and known by nearly everyone in the village. While Maudie, though younger, was, by no means, a less bright and lovable child. It is impossible for pen to describe the grief of the doubly bereaved parents, whose whole hearts seemed bound up in the lives of their little ones, and how utterly impossible it is at such a time to say anything to console or comfort the sorrow stricken ones.

The funeral obsequies were observed at the school house yesterday, where Rev. Chas. Barker delivered one of the most touching discourses we have ever listened to. When the two little coffins were brought into the school houses and place side by side there was hardly a dry eye in the house. To say that the bereaved family has the sympathy of the entire community would be but to echo the feelings of the community.

The remains were taken on the down passenger train, yesterday, for interment at Friendship, Adams Co. Mr. and Mrs. N. J. White, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. White and J. N. White accompanied them.
