Garbush, Pauline (23 Nov. 1852 - 2 Ma 1934)

Mrs. Pauline Fiedler Garbush, born Nov. 23, 1852 at Breslau, Germany, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Jensen, Town of Lynn, at 2:30 p.m. May 2, aged 82 years. Mrs. Garbush, who had been a resident of Clark County since 1870 and of Neillsville since 1903, had been making her home at Lynn since her health made it impossible to keep up her residence in this city.

Mrs. Garbush was married to August Garbush in the Town of Grant on April 14, 1871, where they engaged in farming. To this union were born five children, Arthur, town of Lynn; Edward, Plevna,, Mont.; Albert, Loyal; Herbert, Milwaukee and Bertha, Mrs. Henry Jensen of Lynn, all of whom survive. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren.

Mrs. Garbush attended schools at Milwaukee where the family lived after their arrival from Germany. She was confirmed at Luther Church in that city and throughout her life remained a devout member of her faith. It was in Milwaukee that Mrs. Garbush gained her knowledge of gardening which proved of much value to her later in life. Her employment in that capacity gave her a wide experience in truck farming and after the death of her husband she supported herself and the youngest son, Herbert, by her thrift and industry as a gardener in this city.

Mrs. Garbush was a familiar figure on the streets of this city for many years as she solicited customers for her garden products, hauling the produce in a small children’s express wagon. Though her burdens of life were many, Mrs. Garbush was ever cheerful and through her courtesy and willingness to assist those in deistress she won the lasting friendship of her neighbors and fellow residents. Mrs. Garbush’s interests centered in her home. The work of gardening became her hobby and she thoroughly enjoyed being among the growing plants and flowers that surrounded her little home on North Grand avenue. As relaxation she spent her spare time in reading.

The funeral was held May 4 at 2 p.m. from the Schiller Funeral Home with Rev. G. W. Longenecker in charge of the services. Pallbearers were Will and Robert Kurth, Albert Degener, Frank Hemp, Ole Lowe and Clemens Keuchenmeister.
