Benzschawel, Jeannette Clara (6 Aug. 1938- 12 April 2005)

Jeannette C. Benzschawel, 66, of Thorp, formerly of Stevens Point, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Thorp Funeral Home and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church. Thorp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jeannette C. Benzschawel

Jeannette C. Benzschawel, 66, of Thorp died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp with the Rev. Keith Apfelbeck officiating. Cremainal inurnment will take place at a later date in St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery in Thorp. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Thorp Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.

Jeannette Clara Shilts was born on Aug. 6, 1938, in Stanley to Edward and Pearl (Phillippi) Shilts. She was raised and received her education in Stanley, graduating from Stanley High School in 1956. Following her graduation, Jeannette worked at the Stanley IGA. On May 29, 1959, she was married to Robert Benzschawel at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Chicago. They moved often, due to her husband's job, living in Tomahawk, Marquette, Mich., Merrill and finally settling in Stevens Point. In 1971, they purchased the grocery store that her husband worked for in Stevens Point. She worked with her husband at the grocery store, Bob's Food King, until selling the store in 1985. They resided in Stevens Point until moving to Thorp in 1993. They founded Thorp Home Improvement and operated the business until their son, Neal, took over the business in 1996. Jeannette was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church and loved spending time with her grandchildren, reading, gardening, baking, bowling and going to casinos.

She will be sadly missed by her husband, Bob, of Thorp; four children, Robert E. Benzschawel of Mondovi, Dawn (Steve) Johnson of Prairie du Sac, Lynn (Chuck) Platta of Plover and Neal (Jill) Benzschawel of Thorp; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Irene (Cliff) Burket of Wausau and Delores (Mike) Pearson of Wausau; three brothers, Denver (Carol) Shilts of Wausau, Cleve (Jane) Shilts of Stanley and Wilfred (Ferne) Shilts of Stanley; and one sister-in-law, Phyllis Shilts of Eau Claire.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Richard, in infancy; two sisters, Marie Gilberts and Bernice Moore; and one brother, Glen Shilts.
