Raether, Elizabeth (27 Nov. 1863 - 12 July 1934)

Mrs. Elizabeth Raether passed away very suddenly at the home of her daughter Mrs. Fred Wendt in the town of York, Thursday morning, July 12 at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 15 days.

Elizabeth Oldham was born in Quebec, Canada, Nov. 27, 1863. Coming to Neillsville with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Oldham where a small child. They lived on a farm in the town of Levis where she grew to womanhood and was married to Albert Raether Oct. 27, 1882.

They made their home near Neillsville until 1910 when they moved to the southern part of the state living at Milwaukee and East Troy until 1928 when they moved to California where Mr. Raether passed away two years ago. Mrs. Raether then came back making her home with her daughters.

She is survived by four children Minnie (Mrs. Fred Wendt), of York, Elsie (Mrs. Arthur Johnsen) Waukegan, Ill.; Alvin and Frank of Oakland Calif. Also five grandchildren, four brothers and one sister. The funeral was held at the Congregational church Monday Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. The sons Alvin and Frank and the latter’s wife of Oakland came for the funeral.

Mrs. Raether was a woman of the finest pioneer character –home loving, devoted to the welfare of husband and children, but finding time to be kind and neighborly to those about her in the community.
