Wicker, William H. H. (2 JUN 1836 - 19 OCT 1885)

Died, at his home in the town of Hull, Marathon Co., Wis., on Monday, Oct 19th, 1885, of a complication of diseases, William H. H. Wicker, in the 50th years of his age.

William Henry Harrison Wicker was born in New York City on the 2nd day of June, 1836, where he resided until the fall of 1856 when he came to Wisconsin and settled at Barton, Washington Co., where, on July 28th, 1857, he was united in marriage with Miss Emeline Young. Oct 8th, 1861, he enlisted in Co. D., First Wis. Vol. Infantry; was promoted to Sergeant and served to the end of the war in the Army of the Cumberland. In 1871 he passed through her with the engineer corps of the W. C. Company and was so pleased with the country that one year later he located on the farm on which he died.

Deceased has been ailing for some years past, in fact, has not been well since the close of the war, being the result of diseases contracted during his services for Uncle Sam. During the past year he has been so low several time that his life was despaired of and yet, when the final ending came it was sudden. He leaves a wife and ten children, 5 boys and 5 girls, besides 3 brothers and 2 sisters to mourn his loss.

Mr. Wicker was a devoted member of the Odd Fellow’s lodge and the Grand Army of the Republic. Having become a member of the former during his residence in Washington Co. and a member of Colby Lodge at the time of its institution in 1874. He was a charter member of Isaac N. Earl Post, G. A. R., of this place, and held the office of Sergeant Major at the time of his death.

Mr. W. had many sincere friends who will mourn his death and sympathize with the afflicted family.

The funeral took place this morning at the M. E. Church, under the auspices of the Odd Fellow’s Lodge, Brethren from Unity, Dorchester and Thorp, attended the funeral.
