White, Ray (1882 - 10 Dec 1885)

Died, at the home of his parents in this village (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), on Thursday morning, Dec. 10, 1885, of bronchial croup, Ray, only child of Mr. and Mr. J. J White, aged nearly four years.

Little Ray was a very bright and winsome child and was loved by all who knew him. His sudden death cause a mantle of gloom to fall over the entire village, and as the sad tidings were conveyed from one to another, in hushed voices, each spoke a deep and heartfelt sympathy for the afflicted parents. There are many in the village no who witnessed the distressing scene March 8th, 1881, when this couple suffered the loss of their two daughters, and the little darlings lay side by side in their narrow beds during the funeral discourse. It seemed then as though their grief was more than heart could bear. On the 21st of January, following, the household was again brightened and blessed by the advent of little Ray, and every care that loving hearts could extend was given, that their home should not be once more desolate. But the fell destroyer entered their home, and in a few short hours from the first attack the grief stricken parents were childless once more. Human tongue cannot picture the poignant grief of the afflicted ones, but each and all can do their share toward dulling the rough edges and make it the more easy to bear.

Funeral services were held at the church Friday afternoon, Rev. McKibbin officiating.

Immediately after the ceremonies at the church the remains were taken to the depot and from there taken to Friendship, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. White, Mr. J. N. White and Mrs. Sam J. Shafer.
