Wasserberger, John (9 Apr 1859 - 30 Jul 1916)

John Wasserberger died at his home in this city Sunday morning, July 30, 1916, his death being due to cancer of the liver, from which he suffered since last February. He was taken to the Marshfield Hospital at that time, and later had three operations at different times, which brought him but little relief. He came back from the hospital April 8th. He remained hopeful and cheerful to the end, notwithstanding his suffering.

He was born on a farm near West Bend, Washington Co., Wis., April 8, 1859, being the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhardt Wasserberger. His early years were spent on a farm there, and later he became a prominent woodsman, spending 17 winters in the logging business. He came to Clark County in 1886 and entered farming, and later in the buffet for several years.

On Feb. 10, 1896 he was married to Miss Ida Hoffman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hoffman, of Globe, who survives him. He leaves besides his wife, three children: George, Lillian and Harry, all at home. He leaves also five brothers: Charles and Henry Wasserberger, of Neillsville; Herman at Marshfield; Richard at Minocqua, Wis.; and Jacob, at Montrose, Neb., also one sister, Mrs. Kate Zimmerman at St. Helena, Neb., another sister, Mrs. Mary Fessman, is deceased.

Mr. Wasserberger was a man of high moral character. His word was absolutely reliable, and while quiet in his manner, he was a warm friend and a good neighbor. Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. G.W. Longenecker officiating.
