Walk, Carl Sr. (22 FEB 1845 - 4 Augl 1916)

Carl Walk, one of the old residents of this locality, died at his home in this city, Aug. 4th, 1916, aged 70 years, 5 months and 22 days.

Carl Friederich Wilhelm Walk was born Feb. 22, 1845 in Schoenfeld, Uckernerk Province Brandenberg Kreis Preuslau, Germany. He was married Sept. 27, 1868, to Marie Christine Wilhelmine Herbst, who survives him. They came to America with his folks, a brother and sister, arriving at Watertown, Wis., Jan. 1, 1869. They lived in Jefferson Co. until Oct. 26, 1888, when they came to Clark County and settled on their farm three miles southeast of Neillsville, where they lived until three years ago, when they sold the farm and moved into the city.

Mr. Walk was a man of the finest qualities. He was genial and friendly to all abut him, loving the home and farm and plain substantial things of life, but also interested and helpful in church and those things that make for a higher type of citizenship. He was a good farmer and beautified his home and its surroundings.

To Mr. and Mrs. Walk were born nine children: five girls and four boys. The daughters are all deceased. The sons are Carl, Of Bay City, Mich., Paul and Rudolf, of Clarkston, Wash., and John, of Neillsville. He leaves also three brothers and three sisters: Wm. And Gatefeld, of Monroe Center, Ill., Mrs. Alm, of Whitewater, Wis., Mrs. Kurnest and Mrs. Passer, of Ft. Atkinson, Wis., and August, of Neillsville.

The funeral was held Monday at the German Lutheran Church, Rev. H. Brandt officiating. Those from a distance who were here to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Alm, of Whitewater, Mrs. Will Luderman and Mrs. Herman Kurnest, of Ft. Atkinson, Mr. and Mrs. Gottfried Reindfleisch and Mr. Frantz Kurth, of Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Walk, of Bay City, Mich., and Rudolf Walk and son Robert, of Clarkston, Wash.
