Baird, Rossamond H. (4 Apr 1883 - 17 Feb 1913)

Rossamond Hastings Baird was born April 4th, 1883, at Curtiss, Clark County, Wis. He came with his parents to Greenwood in 1899 and attended the city school. In 1904 he went to Chicago and subsequently entered the employ of the C. B. and Q. Railroad on the line between Chicago and Burlington, Iowa.

He enjoyed the best of health up to Jan. 1, 1912, when he entered the Presbyterian hospital of Chicago and there underwent an operation for ostio-carcenoma or cancer of the bone. From this operation he gained but little relief and was an inmate of the hospital from that time, with the exception of a visit to the home folks last April, up to Feb. 12, when he was removed to a Christian Science institution, there to receive aid and spiritual help in which he firmly believed. However, the ravages of his dread malady had so worn his body that the end came peacefully and joyfully at 5:30 a.m. Feb. 17, 1913.

Ross, as he was known to his friends, possessed a cheerful and sunny disposition and made many friends wherever he went, as the many beautiful flowers which were sent to his funeral, bore mute testimony.

His body was brought to the home of his parents in this city on Tuesday, Feb. 18th by his brother Duane W. and wife, and on the following day at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, after a most fitting sermon by Rev. Braddock of the Grace M.E. Church, he was laid to rest in the beautiful home of the dead on the hill overlooking the river.

He leaves to mourn his absence his little daughter Nina of Chicago, his parents Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Baird and sisters Pearl and Goldie of this city, Nina, now Mrs. Walter Raymond of Frisp, Wash., a brother Duane W. of Chicago, besides other relatives.
