REV.FLEMING Our service to the York Center Church was brief. We came in September 1936 and were transferred to Viroqua after Easter in 1939, having been caught in a series of pastoral moves reaching from Pennsylvania to Kansas. Our recollections of York Center are all good--the kindness and socialbility of the people, their love for their Church, the delicious and abundant meals served by the ladies, etc. Mrs. Emil Korth was Sunday School Superintendent, Mrs. William Rowe was our organist, though I also recall Mrs. Milford Rowe as having played some. Mr. George Mortimer was our faithful treasurer. We recall, with delight, the 50th Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Eyesnoggle, (Zettie Young's parents) how he surprised us with the request that we lead them again through the wedding vows, and I was there without a discipline or ritual. Perhaps our most satisfying recollections are with our splendid youth program. York Center then had a fine group of young people who held their Epworth Leagpe meeting on a week night, combining evenings of worship and fellowship. The character of the young people and the quality of their meetings were such as to justify our pride and appreciation. Mrs. Alvin VandeBerg, whose four boys were members of the group, was a wise and helpful counselor to the group. It was my privilege to serve this Church for six years (1953-1959) as its District Superintendent. We retired in 1966, and are now living in Marshfield.
