Drainie, India L. (Marriage - 27 Nov 1917)

Louis Samson Davis, the second youngest son of Fred Davis, sprung a genuine surprise on his many relatives and friends here (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.), when he advised them, on Thanksgiving Day, to the effect that he was a married man and that within a week he would be here, accompanied by his bride. Louis was married at St. Joseph, Mo., Nov. 27, 1917. His bride is a Miss India Layton Drainie, of that place. She had for some time past held the position of assistant manager of the circulation and advertising department of the St. Joseph, Mo. News Press and it was while at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, where for the past three months Louis has been in the Civil Engineering Officers Reserve Corps Training Camp. Louis met her, and their acquaintance ripened into love. He secured a 10 to 18 days furlough with the closing of the training camp on Nov. 27 and was married that evening. Then after a brief visit among her relatives at St. Joseph this happily wedded pair set out for Wisconsin, stopping only for a short visit at Madison before arriving here on Tuesday. A large reception, although limited to relatives only, was held for them at his sister, Mrs. John Pietenpol's home, Tuesday evening. (Granton News)
