North, Henry A. (4 FEB 1845 - 28 Nov 1919)

Henry A. North died at his home in this city Nov. 28, 1919, aged 74 years, 9 months and 24 days. He was born in Germany Feb. 4, 1845 and came to the United States in 1854, and first lived at Crystal Lake, Wis. Later he moved to Montello, Wis., where he engaged in the hardware business from 1874 to 1883.

He was married March 9, 1876 at Montello to Miss Otillie Radke. In 1883 they moved to Neillsville, Clark County, Wis., where Mr. North again engaged in the hardware business until 1901, when he retired from active business, disposing of his hardware business to Denis Tourigny. He was a director of the Neillsville Bank from 1894 to 1914, at which time he resigned on account of poor health. He was also one of the organizers of the local St. John's Lutheran Church, of which he was a member at the time of his death.

Mr. North was a man of the highest type of character. In his long business career no word was ever uttered against his honesty and fairness. Men who came in contact with him, instinctively felt that he was worthy of confidence. He was quiet and unobtrusive in manner, yet possessed a genial humor that made him a pleasant man to meet. His success in business was due to the combination of absolute honesty and a genuine friendliness that spoke of a kindness of heart.

He is survived by his wife, four sons, Herman, Henry, Gustave and William, and three daughters, Helene, Laura and Clara. They all live in Neillsville except Henry, who lives in Minneapolis. He leaves also two brothers, Gustave living at Montello, Wis., and Herman at Fall River, Kansas.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Rev. H. Brandt officiating. Those from out of town attending were Mr. and Mrs. Henry North of Minneapolis, Gustave North of Minneapolis, Gustave North, William Radke, Mrs. Pauline Hillmer and Mrs. Chas. Manthey of Montello.
