Leslie, George (26 JUL 1828 - 14 DEC 1907)
Died, at his home in this village (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.), on Saturday Dec. 14, 1907, of old age, George Leslie, aged 79 years, 4 months and 18 days.
Mr. Leslie was born in the town of Lockport, Niagara Co., N.Y., on July 26, 1828, and was one of a family of six children, four boys and two girls. At the age of seventeen he landed in Milwaukee, going later to Green Co., Wis., where he was united in marriage and resided for twenty years. In 1880 he came with his family to Thorp, where he has since made his home. He was a man of generous impulses and never forgot the hospitable ways of the pioneer. For many years the stranger even though a beggar, never failed to find food and shelter if he sought it at his hands, and he was at home by the bedside of the sick and delighted in all kinds of neighborly offices. He had filled the various relations of life, as son, husband, father, brother, friend, and filled them well. Who can do more?
He leaves an invalid wife and four daughters, Mrs. James Covert of St. Paul, Mrs. Wm. Gale of Wallace, Idaho, Mrs. Frank Tormey, Mrs. O. Downing, of this place, and one son, Frank Leslie of Park Falls, all of whom were present at the funeral, except Mrs. Gale. The interment took place on Tuesday, the services being conducted at the house, Rev. J. B. Bachman officiating.
