70 YEARS AGO:

Mr & Mrs. John Brandt celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. John and Antje M (Eden) were married April 7, 1883 in Germany. They came to the USA in 1895.

Mayor Hipke will use the labor of the unemployed men to plant trees at the school.

60 YEAR AGO:

Carl Theirl, Stanley's marble champ defends this title May 1st. Jerry Simon is ranked second, Dennis Mock third and Dick Sneen fourth.

Dr. Clemens Matthew Granskou, formerly of Stanley, was elected president of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.

Mrs. Florence Henneman's husband Rupert, writes her and tells her he was at the side of James Smith and Patrick Walsh, two Eau Claire men who were killed in action in New Guinea.

50 YEARS AGO:

James Hunt, age 13, is the first youth to receive the AAA life saving medal. He rescured five young children from the train tracks.

40 YEARS AGO:

Carol Nerdrum is the class of 1963 valedictorian and Patricia Brodacki the salutatorian.
