Edwin Karpinske

Edwin E. Karpinske, 83, died on Wednesday, November 28, 2001, at his residence in Colby.

A Memorial Service with family and friends will be held in the Spring with inurnment at the Colby Memorial Cemetery.

Edwin William Karpinske was born February 9, 1918, in Stanley, the son of William and Hazel (Brunno) Karpinske. On August 28, 1942, Edwin enlisted in the U. S. Army serving as a paratrooper ranger during World War II.

He received his honorable discharge as's SGT, on February 6, 1946. Edwin and the former Vera Esterling were united in marriage in Seattle, Washington, on November 24, 1943.

Ed and Vera farmed in the Town of Beaver for 34 years and in 1980 sold the farm to reside in Colby. He spent part of his spare time painting, working seasonal at Figi’s of Marshfield and in maintenance at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen.

For the past 8 years, Ed served as a nutrition driver for Meals on Wheels in Abbotsford, Colby and Unity area.

He served on the LaTart School Board of Beaver Township for three years and on the Zion UCC Immanuel Church board for 17 years.

Ed and Vera were avid polka fans and were known for their dancing and matching outfits. They were selected King and Queen of Central Wisconsin Festivals.

Edwin will be sadly missed by his family, one son, Verlan (Debbie) Karpinske of Appleton; one daughter, Evonne Karpinske of Eau Claire; one grandson, Jeremy (Jamie Seegers) Karpinske; one granddaughter shaya (Nathan) Ottestadt; one great grandchild Madalyn Mika Ottestad; special friend Cora Herrington of Marshfield and a brother Ray Karpinske of Seattle, Washington. He was preceded in death by his wife Vera Florence Karpinske on December 16, 1992.

Ed touched a lot of lives. He was a welcome sight and will be remembered for his "quirky" laugh and jokes. The family wishes to thank their extended family, Debbie’s parents, Jim and Marge Blaire for all of their help.

Maurina Funeral Service of Abbotsford is assisting the family with arrangements.
