Dan Conley, one of Joe Gibson’s men at work on the landing of the camp in town 31, met with a very severe accident last Thursday. A log came gliding down the bank endwise and struck him before he could get out of its way, in the calf of the leg, pinning him against another log. From the hollow of the knee to the ankle the flesh was horribly mangled and torn from the bones. Dr. Thomas has replaced the injured porting and thinks a part of it will retain life and grow on, but a large portion has mortified and been cut away. Conley is a single man and for some years has made his home in La Crosse.
