Miles, William T. (14 Sep 1845 - 5 Mar 1921)

William T. Miles Sr., one of the oldest settlers of Clark County, Wis., died at the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Cora Miles, of pneumonia on Saturday, March 5, 1921, at the age of 75 years.

He was born in Fairview, Erie Co., Penn., Sept. 14, 1845 and came to Dane Co., Wis. when about a year old.

On Nov. 28, 1867 he was married to Miss Caroline Spears, they moving to Clark County in 1868, where they took up a homestead. For the past six years he has made it his home with Mrs. Cora Miles on the old homestead and with Mrs. Charles Townsend at Withee, Clark County.

He leaves to mourn his loss two sisters, Mrs. Helen Fields of Chili, Clark County and Mrs. Eva Fields of Humbird, Clark County, seven children, Wm. T. Miles of Tripoli, Mrs. Chas. Townsend of Withee, Mrs. John Frasier of Bayfield, Miss Lillian Miles of Minneapolis, Mrs. Howard Miles of Englewood, Colo., Mrs. Price Cook of Earl, N.D., and Mrs. Walter Drake of Spencer, and 30 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and five children.

The deceased was a civil war veteran and was in the service the last year of the Civil War.

Mr. Miles was a man who was held in high esteem in the community for his uprightness and integrity. He was a kind neighbor and friend and will be missed in the vicinity where he has lived so long.

The funeral services were held at the home near Spokeville, Clark County on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30, Rev. Knaak officiating. Interment took place in the Loyal Cemetery.
