Lau, Charley (19 MAY 1868 - 22 Jul 1926)

Charley Lau, one of our prominent farmers, passed on to the undiscovered country, Tuesday, July 22, 1926, after being ill three days with appendicitis, at the age of fifty-eight years, two months and three days. Funeral services were held Monday, July 26th, at the Reformed Church, Rev. Rosnau officiating, and interment made in the Colby Cemetery.

The deceased was born in Germany, May 19, 1868, and came to the U. S. in 1876. After coming to this country, he lived in Milwaukee until 1888, when he moved to Colby and engaged in farming. He became one of the prominent dairymen of this section. He was married to Minnie Gramdorf, Feb. 19, 1903, at West Allis, Wis., who survives him.

Those from out of town here for the funeral were Mrs. Joe Gramdorf, sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Gramdorf and two children, nephew and niece. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gramdorf, nephew and niece, Arthur Gramdorf, nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stacy, nephew and niece, all of Watertown, Mrs. M. Martins, cousin, of Spencer, and Mr. and Mrs. Redig of Spencer, Wis.

With the passing of Mr. Lau, who by hard labor and privations, built a fine farm, another name must be stricken from the ever lessening roll of early pioneers. The deceased lived an honest and sincere life and his conduct, either as a fellow citizen or husband, suffers no reproach.
