Neumeister, Herman (4 Mar 1859 - 3 Dec 1927)

Herman Neumeister, one of the pioneers of this community and prominent citizen of Colby, Wis., departed to the distant shore last Saturday, Dec. 3, 1927, after a lingering illness of cancer of the stomach. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church under the direction of the I. O. O. F., assisted by Rev. Fahlgren, Monday, Dec. 5th, at 2:00 p.m., and interment made in the Colby Cemetery.

The deceased was born at Sheboygan, Wis., March 4, 1859, thus reaching the age of 68 years, 8 months and 29 days. He came to this city forty-eight years ago and engaged in the harness business. He was married to Mary Spickerman at Sheboygan, Wis., July 17, 1883, which union was blessed with eight children, seven of who are still living, namely: Mrs. J. B. Sarebo, Mankato, Minn.; Mabel, St. Paul, Minn.; Herman, Graceville, Minn.; Mrs. Al Hanson, Faribault, Minn.; Mrs. D. Imhuff, Steubenville, Ohio; Helen, Minneapolis; Harold, Milwaukee. Besides his wife and children, his departure is mourned by two sisters, Mrs. Anna Eckert, Chicago, and Mrs. Ida Krebs, Muskegon, Mich.

Those present from out of town for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bersch, Mr. Arthur Bersch, Mrs. Regina Nieman, all of Winneconne, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Prange, Mrs. Lydia Schafer, Mr. Otto Neumeister and Mrs. William Grube, all of Sheboygan, Wis.; Mr. Herman Neumeister, Jr. of Graceville, Minn.; Mabel of St. Paul, Helen of Minneapolis and Harold of Milwaukee, Wis.

Mr. Neumeister always took a keen interest in local affairs and served Colby, Wis. as mayor, supervisor and member of the first city council. During recent years, he served as justice of the peace. Besides being a member of the I. O. O. F., he also belonged to the E. F. U.

It was the writer's good fortune to have known him long and well, and at all times and under all circumstances, he walked in the well beaten path of righteousness and now we miss his friendly and kindly greeting. He will always be remembered by his family, as well as by a wide circle of friends, as a loving husband and father, who filled the various relations of life and filled them well.

Here rests in peace Josepf Spiekermann, born 1825 and died on 8 May 1885
I was a citizen of Westphalia.
Remember, as you visit this tomb, what is engraved on its stone.

Herman Neumeister and Maria Spiekermann (b. 4 Mar 1864 in Heinsburg, Ger., d. 24 Jul 1942 in Colby, Marathon Co., Wis.) were the parents of Harold Neumeister (b. 28 Feb 1903),  Maria was the daughter of Johann Josef Spiekerman (b.12 Oct 1825, Heinsburg, Ger., d. 8 May 1885, Dorchester, Clark Co., Wis.) and Katherine M. Kleffmann (b. 28 Feb 1831, Heinsburg, Ger., d. 2 Sep 1919 in Winneconee, Winnebago Co., Wis.)
